When did you begin working at CALM?

I began working at CALM in 2010.

What is your role at CALM?

I’m the Parenting and Family Program Manager in the Santa Maria office.

Please share one of your best CALM experience (a time you felt like you really made a difference.)

As a therapist at CALM since 2010, I have connected with many families and noticed the gap in services for those families; such as, the need for additional Postpartum Depression support and Domestic Violence treatment. Over the years CALM has continued to grow and expand our services in Santa Maria; however, the demand is greater than our resources. In 2015 I was promoted to Program Manager. I began to explore my options on how we can provide services to our clients, using the resources we had. At that time we had long waitlists for those programs.  I decided that we needed to start support groups to use our limited resources, and at the same time provide services to a group of individuals that need the support when they are first referred to our agency and not months later. So far, we have completed one cycle of English and Spanish Postpartum Depression support groups, with a new cycle starting in July 2016. In addition we have had three cycles of the Domestic Violence support groups in Spanish, with a second group starting early July 2016.  The second group was added due to our high demand for Domestic Violence treatment.

Finish the sentence.  “If I could do one thing to make kids’ lives better, I would….”

Provide parents with the support they need to overcome their own life stressors and childhood trauma; so that they are able to appropriately love, care, and discipline their children.

What is one thing you wish people knew about CALM?

CALM is a place of new opportunities, for clients and staff.
