I began working for CALM in July 2016.
I’m a Safecare specialist, home visitor, and facilitate a Nurturing Parenting group in New Cuyama.
I had a mother who stated she did not know how to play with her child and felt embarrassed because she wanted to learn how to engage with child. She told me she didn’t know how to play because she never played as a child. She had to clean and work from a young age. We spent weeks doing Parent and Child Interaction Therapy sessions in the office and later, we had sessions at the park. I was able to witness how mother and child playing and laughing. The mother did an awesome job learning how to play cars, games, spend time at the park, all to better connect to her child.
If I could do one thing to make kids’ lives better I would make sure each child has a loving and nurturing home. I want all parents/caregivers to know how important it is to tell your kids you love them, provide hugs, listen to them, and most of all for every child to feel love and protected.
CALM is a great organization that focus on children and their families by offering great services.
