Mental Health Consultant for Preschools

    CALM is excited to announce a new tri-district Universal Preschool Partnership Project focusing on state preschools in CUSD, SBUSD and GUSD. This collaborative effort includes both virtual and in-person classroom support, reflective practice facilitation, parent education and the delivery of professional development. We are seeking a Mental Health Consultant to work primarily in schools, after school programs and childcare centers to support teachers/facilitators, children and families. The Consultant supports teachers in the classroom by assisting with observations, providing coaching to help teachers handle challenging behavior and offering reflective practice groups to help teachers reflect on their work with children, responses and beliefs. The Consultant also provides training and education to support teachers in understanding child development, social-emotional targeted interventions and other topics important to the teaching team. In addition, the Mental Health Consultant reaches out to families who may need services or referrals, parent education and support with their child.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

    • Participates in completion of program assessment with sites to assess their strengths and needs.
    • Provides developmentally appropriate therapeutic interventions for teachers, children and families in classroom settings.
    • Coordinates with other therapists, consultants, and partners to implement intervention plans, when appropriate.
    • Works with teachers, aides, school site staff, and other professionals in the classroom.
    • Coaches teachers on targeted behavior interventions.
    • Models appropriate interactions with children.
    • Provides reflective practice groups for teachers, as needed.
    • Supports teachers and staff in restorative approaches.
    • Assists teachers in parent conferences and other meetings.
    • Organizes and provides trainings for teachers, administrators, school staff, and parents.
    • Maintains confidentiality of all information.
    • Maintains cooperative working relationships with students, parents, families, teachers, and school staff.
    • Maintains a minimum of 60% documentable clinical time.
    • Participates in individual and group clinical supervision as required.

    Documentation Responsibilities:

    • Completes all agency required documentation, including progress notes and assessments, in a timely manner and according to agency policy and best practice.
    • Provides regular reports/notes to site administrators and teachers.
    • Meets Medi-Cal documentation standards, as needed.
    • Completes items on Electronic Health Record task list in a timely manner.

    Therapeutic Responsibilities:

    • Creates an action plan with measurable and observable goals in collaboration with teachers and staff.
    • Provides developmentally appropriate therapeutic interventions for children and families
    • Coordinates with other agencies when appropriate.
    • Maintains confidentiality of all information.
    • Maintains cooperative working relationships with parents, families, school staff.
    • Maintain a minimum of 60% documentable clinical time.

    EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

    • MFT Associate, MSW or Psychology Associate from an accredited university or college required.
    • Knowledge of HIPAA regulations.
    • Experience working with complex issues facing children and families and knowledge of Mental Health Consultation or Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy preferred.
    • A minimum of 1 – 2 years related work experience in a behavioral health agency, early childhood or K – 8 client experience helpful.
    • Previous experience working in the nonprofit sector highly desirable.
    • Experience working in either a private or public school site environment preferred.

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Must have a passion for CALM’s mission and the ability to convey that passion to others.
    • Bilingual (Spanish) strongly preferred.
    • Strong computer knowledge, using PC, Microsoft Word and Excel, and Outlook.
    • Excellent verbal/written communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
    • Public speaking skills and ability to network within the school community.

    COMPENSATION:

    • Salary is dependent on experience.

    HOURS of EMPLOYMENT:

    • This is a part- time position with a 20 to 25-hour work week schedule.
