I begun working for CALM end of July 2019 as a therapist.
I am a bilingual therapist for our Great Beginnings program. I mainly work with children 3-9 years old. I work in collaboration with parents by providing psychoeducation and skills to help them manage the trauma symptoms their children experience. As a Spanish-speaking therapist I want to ensure all families can access mental health services and feel supported in their journey.
So far the best CALM experience was when I was able to do yoga with a client. This client is very timid and usually doesn’t say much but getting her to move her body in a different way and quiet her mind completely changed her demeanor! I noticed how engaged she was (smiling and laughing) and seemed to enjoy it. It always feels good when we are able to provide a healthy coping skill that the child can take home with them.
If I could do one thing to make kids’ lives better I would make sure each kids feels loved and supported so they can truly thrive.
I’d like people to know that CALM does more than therapy services; every day I continue to learn how CALM supports families in the community and is involved in prevention too. I’m so happy to be part of the CALM family and look forward to the work to come.
