Great Beginnings: Promoting safe and healthy child development

Great Beginnings

A continuum of services are delivered in the home, community setting, or clinic to support caregiver mental health, enhance attachment, increase positive parenting, and reduce the impact of toxic stress. These programs serve families with children prenatally through age nine.

Services include:

Childhood Trauma Treatment

The Childhood Trauma Treatment department focuses on facilitating recovery for children and families who have been exposed to abuse, neglect or violence within their family or community. Individual and family treatment are provided to foster children’s resilience and recovery from adverse experiences.

Services include:

  • Evidence-Based Treatment
  • Parent Education & Support

Intensive Family Services*

The Intensive Family Services Department serves children and families who require comprehensive support to achieve stability and are referred by the Department of Behavioral Wellness or the Department of Social Services. Families served have frequently experienced complex trauma, including multigenerational histories of familial trauma, parental histories of substance abuse, and involvement with the criminal justice or child welfare system. Services are tailored to the needs of the family and may be provided in the home or community-based setting.

*Referrals are made in partnership with Santa Barbara County.

Community Strengthening Collaborations: Creating systems change

Community Strengthening Collaborations

CALM provides education, prevention and treatment to children, families, and community professionals. By embedding services in natural settings where children learn and grow, we partner with organizations and systems to increase access to mental health services, overcome stigma, and build trauma-informed communities.

Services include:
