calm through the years
From a single phone line to a countywide agency
1969

Claire Miles
Claire Miles, a local nurse, learns that an overworked and emotionally stressed father had, in a moment of desperation, shaken his infant son to death. Claire takes immediate action, putting a phone in her living room and taking out classified ads in the Santa Barbara News-Press urging parents in need to call for help. The phone rings almost 40 times within the first month. Claire and her friends take turns answering the calls, with the hope of helping stressed parents before they hurt their children
